Creme Cottage Update

Happy Wednesday Creme Foodies!

How is this massive heat wave treating you all? Oh summer is here for sure... I don’t know about you, but I am about ready to wilt! Hopefully none of this heat and humidity has kept you out of the kitchen— or off the grill! Wait until the sun goes down a little and I promise it is the perfect setting for grilling, which is why I have a sure-to-please grilling recipe for you today. But more on that in a moment!

I haven’t updated you all on the progress of the Creme Cottage in the Woods in awhile. The pandemic has certainly been a thorn in my side when it comes to getting things on time, but the progress has been incredible. Last time I left you off with some info on our roof, windows, and garage doors. All have been a great addition to the Cottage— aside from the garage door, which cant be put on quite yet!

The outside is coming along with our new stone. It was SUCH a great choice to use a stone veneer by Eldorado Stone From Watkins here in Omaha. (Laura at Watkins is the BEST) The color we chose was Casa Blanca Roughcut. I love the creamy natural color it brings to the outside of our home. Neutral for me is always the way to go! The only thing we have to do next is choose the exterior color for the siding and a whitewash exterior stain for our cedar shake siding—I have some ideas in mind.

I. Can’t. Wait.

A lot has been happening inside our Cottage as well… cabinets are being installed! (Can I get a WOOHOOOO!)

I was lucky to work with Lance at Eurowood Cabinets for a second time. The design process was a blast, and I think we did more laughing and talking and catching up then getting work done! But isn’t that the way you want a project like this to go??

I could not be happier with the shaker door style. So different from our Skyline home, but so perfect in this setting. All the uppers will be paintable and all the lower cabinets are a white oak rift. The balance of the two colors and textures will bring everything together for our kitchen and pantry.

I had Lance SUPERSIZE the kitchen island— and boy did he! It will seat ten easily without having to cram everyone in. And it’s the focal point of the home and kitchen. Well, that AND my new range... more on that soon:)

And lastly, what about a sneak peek into our laundry room that features a little hideaway for our French Bulldogs, Chompers and Francesca? Wanna See?? Ok... here it goes...

The house could’t be coming along better, and I’m just counting the days until we can move! Until then, there’s lots to do, and I have a great team with Archistructure, who’s going to make it happen! Can’t wait!!

Now. Back to the grill-and recipe time! We decided to cook up some scallops on the grill. To be honest, I had never grilled a scallop on a grill before— so I was careful not to overcook. Nobody likes a tough scallop! And speaking of tough-be sure to take the small “sucker” off the side of the scallop and pat dry. That little sucker is tough to eat! I then made up a quick Korean marinade and had them sit themselves in the fridge in a ziplock for a good 45-50 minutes. It worked perfectly. Nice and tender and the char from the grill was fantastic! I may not make scallops any other way! If you don’t like the extra heat from the crushed red chilies, you can certainly omit. But remember, the Korean Chili powder is mild, but oh how it brings so much flavor!

find the recipe here!

Enjoy and keep cool my sweet friends. Until next time—

Cheers and love,

xoxo
